Membership Criteria & Responsibilities

Membership Benefits

  1. Must identify as and be identified as African American.
  • A safe space to share and amplify ideas
  • Collective accountability and impact
  • Expanded network and potential collaborators with intersecting & varied experiences and perspectives
  • Exposure and connections for individual organizations
  • Intellectual partner of ‘The Collective’
  • Mentoring/coaching opportunities
  • Post updates, job announcements, and ideas in the weekly newsletter
  • Professional development/opportunities to learn from subject matter experts
  • Safe space for hard and honest conversations about work and current events during monthly Collective meetings and quarterly meet-and-greet gatherings
  1. Must be working in an executive leadership position (CEO, President, Executive Director) at a 501(c)3 organization, relevant government agency, or social profit organization (501(c)3 organizations must have a volunteer board of directors that includes at least three unrelated persons).
  1. The organization must be located in the Richmond Metro Region (including the Tri-Cities).
  1. An organization must have been in operation for a minimum of 1 calendar year.
  1. AANL members must refer new candidates for membership.
  1. Members must adopt the AANL Membership Pledge.
